An internal draft is circulating within the Trump administration in which the US is considering banning or restricting entry to individuals from 43 countries.

The current government is considering imposing new immigration restrictions that would affect citizens of several countries.

US Trump administration mulls new travel ban that could hit 43 nations

The draft proposal considers classifying foreign citizens into three categories of immigration restrictions:

There is speculation that the US will allow entry to business travelers from countries on the orange list, for example, under a B-1 visa, provided they pass an in-person interview, but not to those traveling on a B-2 tourist visa or other immigrant visa.

This list is not yet final and could be modified before any official measures are adopted. Likewise, it is not yet clear whether individuals with valid visas would be exempt from the restrictions.

What impact would this ban have on travelers?

The proposed travel ban could affect millions of travelers from the countries involved.

Furthermore, there are concerns that these restrictions could damage relations with US allies and hinder international cooperation.

In particular, countries like Venezuela and Russia have generated controversy due to their relations with the US, leading to their inclusion on restricted lists.

However, the review process is ongoing, so the draft proposal could undergo significant changes.

Will lawful permanent residents be affected by these measures?

It is not yet known whether those who have obtained a Green Card will be affected by the new restrictions.

However, the Trump administration recently canceled the green card of Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student born in Syria and of Palestinian descent.

Khalil lost his status for leading anti-war protests in Gaza, which the government labeled anti-Semitic.

When will this measure be made official?

The internal draft has not yet been made official, but the State Department is expected to submit the final draft in the coming weeks.
