Once again, I renewed my membership with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (otherwise known as “AILA”). And why not? AILA is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policies, and enhance the professional development of its attorney members.
Carolina T. Curbelo
When you hire an immigration attorney, you want an attorney that is affiliated with one of the most respected immigrations bar associations. Not only has my membership provided me with up-to-date information on the current immigration laws and policies, but also the organization is a resource for pending legislation and the current Administration’s proposed policies.
In addition, my AILA membership has afforded me the opportunity to connect with other immigration attorneys across the country and the globe. Since not all immigration attorneys handle the various aspects of immigration law, it is important to establish relationships with your fellow immigration colleagues and know that you can add value to your prospective client’s or current client’s situation by referring to a colleague that has experience in that particular area of immigration law or in a different jurisdiction and court of law.
Finally, I continue to renew my membership because AILA has provided me with amazing pro bono opportunities, whether it is representing airport travelers during the travel ban or detainees in nearby ICE detention facilities.
